January 28, 2021 Smith County POINT IN TIME HOMELESS SURVEY AND COUNT
VOLUNTEER!On January 28, 2021, the East Texas Human Needs Network (ETHNN) will conduct the Smith County Point in Time Homeless Survey and Count. Sheltered counts will take place, but the unsheltered count is tentative at this time (we may have teams of trained volunteers to canvas shelters, soup kitchens, streets and parks to count and survey people experiencing homelessness, but these unsheltered counts are tentative). This important information is used by our community and service providers to design, fund, and implement programs that help homeless individuals and families find a place they can call home.
WHO CAN VOLUNTEER? Anyone 18 years old and older who shares our commitment to helping the homeless of Smith County is encouraged to volunteer. We will provide you with training on the day of the survey. Every team will be led by an experienced team leader. WHEN AND WHERE Volunteers will be assigned to various sites based on the shift and volunteer role chosen. After a brief training, volunteer teams will disperse throughout the community and count/survey individuals living on the street, locations not intended for human habitation, and in shelters.
